Collecting Blackpink

A look into my journey of collecting memorabilia from my favorite artist Blackpink!

About my collection!

I started collecting merchandise from my favorite artist Blackpink during the year 2020. I originally discovered the quartet on August 8, 2016, when they debuted in Seoul, South Korea. From that point on I fell in love with the group, I loved their music, their dynamic, their personalities, and, of course, their merch. I was only a freshman in high school when I discovered them back in 2016 so I sadly did not have the funds to collect their memorabilia from the very start. However, when I graduated high school in 2020 and got my first job, I finally began my journey of collecting.

I will admit I made a lot of mistakes first starting out, I got scammed, was overcharged, and felt confused and lost 90% of the time. But now four years into collecting and eight years into loving Blackpink, I am a pro at this nowadays. I use a variety of platforms to buy and sell merch, my favorite spot is Instagram. I have an account dedicated to my collection on Instagram that I started in 2016. I use it to keep up to date with Blackpink and, of course, to buy, sell, and trade merchandise. I also have a Twitter (or X) account for the same purpose. I enjoy using these two platforms the most because the collecting community is so welcoming and helpful. I’ve also made many lovely friends through my accounts and I was even sent free merch from Starbucks before (it was part of Blackpink’s collaboration with them)! Besides Instagram and Twitter, I also like to use Mercari, eBay, and Mercari Japan to buy merchandise as well.

I have spent probably thousands of dollars on my collection, but it is my pride and joy. I truly love collecting, from searching endlessly for a rare photocard exclusively from China to helping my internet friends buy CDs from a K-pop store in California to trying to find the perfect shelf to display my albums; it all fills me with so much joy, and a sense of accomplishment! I have been collecting for a very long time and I’ve learned a lot during my journey not only about Blackpink or the collecting community but also about myself such as my likes and dislikes, my skills in designing, my dedication to something I love, and so on. I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon, as long as Blackpink is still active so will my journey collecting be!
